景点包括自然风光，红色旅游景区等，旅游景点名称作为一种特殊的翻译对象，有着以下特点：

第一，旅游景点名称均有“专名”以及“通名”，换句话说：景点名称都“有名有姓”。《周易》有云：“近取诸身。”景点名称和人的名字一样也有名有姓。人的姓在选择时是有其实际意义：Smith代表的是打铁的那一家人；“山下”表示住家在山脚下；高则是古时封地名称。从这里我们不难看出：所谓“姓”——“通名”——是为了区分一类事物与另一类事物的标志。所以“太和殿”的“殿”、“广德楼”的“楼”、“永定桥”的“桥”，都是用来区分这类景点以及其他类景点的标志，“殿”、“楼”、“桥”就是这些景点的“姓”。而“名”——“专名”——就是则是用来区分具体某一事物与同一类其他事物的标志。比如：“太和殿”、“中和殿”、“保和殿”，中“太和”、“中和”、“保和”就是区分这三个建筑物之间的标志。

第二，旅游景点名称均“短小精悍”。既然旅游景点名称的作用主要在于对于景点之间的区分，因此上一个名称不能够过长，中国的景点名称一般以四字为限，“湖光山色一楼收”的长度恐怕是中国景点名称之最了。在翻译过程中，“短小精悍”这四个字给中文景点名称的英译造成了不小的困难：汉语是“义合语言”，一般来讲，在一个景点名称中汉语多以实词为主，比如：居庸叠翠，卢沟晓月等等，很少出现介词连词等虚词，而作为“形合语言”的英语在处理一些特定的信息时则必须借助介词、连词和副词。因此对于语句的组织以及词语的选择上，是我们注意的对象。以革命纪念地、纪念物及其所承载的革命精神为吸引物，组织接待旅游者进行参观游览，实现学习革命精神，接受革命传统教育和振奋精神、放松身心、增加阅历的旅游目的地。其具有学习性、故事性、参与性等特点。
